About The Tower

At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B&B holiday accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to a rooftop walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning?

The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide ‘Emperor’ bed and there is a TV in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite. A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Guests staying in the Tower also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle — the Great Hall — a magnificent old room with an original stone fireplace and log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Stone window seats are built into the thick castle walls, and up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie.

From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. Faside Estate is only ten miles from Edinburgh, with easy access to local golf courses, museums, towns and restaurants.

Sue was a fantastic host - said about the history of the place and was very welcoming and warm. The Tower itself completely blew us away - it was the prefect end to a few days away - only wish that we could have stayed longer, if we were to return to the area, this would be top of the list and would recommend to all.

its all about the experience" our stay was most definitely a great experience, not just a place to stay. Only wish we'd stayed longer and made more of it.

Tip: Stay at least two nights, make the most of the hall. Great coffe, cake and beech in Gullane. Falko!

Exceeded my expectations. Authentic Castle/tower. Very upscale and clean. Scenery breathtaking. Local restaraunts and shops convenient. Rural setting with access to Edinburgh city center and Airport using bypass. Owners friendly and willing to go beyond to make your stay memorable! I recommend this as the best Scottish Castle to rent. We were there 4 nights. This castles website does not do it justice. This castle is increadebly tall and huge. Wonderful experience!

Tip: Bring lots of film or extra camera memory. The owners very helpful. Other Castles for hire Very very close to see. We never NEVER got tired of noticing the ambiance of the castle itself. Don't forget to take pictures of the landscape & bay from th top of the castle at different times of the day. There was always plenty of quality food/drinks provided by owners(breakfast) in the fridge in our lucious bedroom=no need for unnecessary jaunts.

Beautiful location, amazing people, highlight of all my travel adventures. We didn't want to leave and we still rave about it. Truly could not have been better.

Tip: Pack light for the stairs up can be a tad tricky but worth it. Rosslyn Castle and all of Edinburgh close by, so much to see and do.

This is the most fantastic "hotel" in which we have ever stayed! Anyone in the Edinburgh area must stay here for at least one night. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the views from the rooftop cannot be beat. Ian and Sue were kind and outgoing; we felt like friends staying the night. My wife and I couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you for the memorable evening.

Tip: Give yourself time to enjoy Fa'side. Arrive early and don't make any plans for the first night, other than dinner perhaps.

What a unique experience! We wanted to stay outside of Edinburgh and this was perfect. A5-10 minute drive to an hourly ( inexpensive) 15 minute ride in town. Meanwhile we were so lucky to have the run of half a castle, it's grounds and glorious views - 3 days wasn't enough! Ian and Sonia were excellent gracious hosts and gave us wonderful recommendations.6 stars!

Tip: We loved the 25 minute coastal drive to the old golf house for dinner in Gullane.

I was brought up in nearby Inveresk and used to play in the ruins of the castle as a young boy in the fifties. So I was surprised to find it had been restored and rebuilt and of course had to add it to my bucket list as somewhere to visit. Even better when I found they took paying guests! It's not easy to find (unless you know or remember the area!) but well worth it when you do. The owners Ian & Sue (and not least Hamish the dog) are so friendly and welcoming and oh so enthusiastic to tell you about the history of their home. The stairs are narrow, steep and in a spiral, so don't take much luggage! And mind out for Hamish who will bound past you! The Great Hall is an amazing room - so full of character and history - and the book about the history of the castle is essential reading. Don't let yourself be put off by the Green Lady stories though - I don't think we saw her .................!! The bedroom is up another floor and is huge. It also contains everything you could possibly want for continental breakfast - so much choice! Strangely enough, even though the weather was lovely and warm, the walls of the castle are so thick - up to 8 feet - and the windows are so small, it was actually very cool inside. So much so that we even put the heating on a couple of times! And up another set of stairs were the castle ramparts with spectacular views all around, even over to Fife. I can't praise the owners highly enough - so glad I could bring back memories of my childhood!!

Tip: Travel as light as possible and only bring in what you need!! The stairs are a challenge (unless you are like Hamish the dog!) Inveresk village is worth a look around - hardly changed in 60 years - and pay a visit to Inveresk Lodge - lovely gardens.

Fa'side Castle is an amazing place to stay - The Tower is very private and perfect for a romantic break. The great hall is stunning with log fire and beautiful authentic features. The upper floor is a beautiful room with Emperor size bed and is en-suite. The top level has amazing views over Edinburgh, the Forth and countryside. The hosts were most welcoming and very informative about the history of the Castle. I highly recommend a stay for anyone wishing to stay somewhere exceptional.

Tip: Local restaurant in Musselburgh - The Caprice - a family run Italian Restaurant. Excellent food and very friendly staff. The Mercat in Whitecraig serves excellent meals and is only 10 minutes drive from Fa'side Castle.

This was my absolute favorite accommodation from our entire trip! What a beautiful castle, breathtaking views, and lovely caretakers! The breakfast was delicious and the bed was so comfortable after a long day traveling. I had a lovely bath in the beautiful bathtub and spent at least an hour on the rooftop terrace taking in the view. Thank you so much for having us and we hope to return someday!

We were made to feel very welcome. Enjoyed every minute! What a unique experience to have stayed the night in a castle. Too much to tell about its stunning interior, people need to see for themselves and they won't be disappointed!

Tip: Try the Sun Inn for a great meal.

What a delightful place. A Great Treat for Lyn's 60th Birthday. One of my ongoing interests has always been reading about and visiting castles and now I've been able to stay in a real castle that's even in my Plantagenant Somerset Fry - David & Charles Book of Castles. The entry now has a Firm Tick against it!! Magnificent setting with a view to end all views. Also worth visiting just to meet Hamish.

Tip: Edinburgh is a must see and so easy to get to on the train.
