About The Tower

At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B&B holiday accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to a rooftop walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning?

The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide ‘Emperor’ bed and there is a TV in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite. A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Guests staying in the Tower also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle — the Great Hall — a magnificent old room with an original stone fireplace and log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Stone window seats are built into the thick castle walls, and up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie.

From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. Faside Estate is only ten miles from Edinburgh, with easy access to local golf courses, museums, towns and restaurants.

Staying at Fa'Side was the highlight of our trip! Sue and Ian made everything about staying in the tower perfect. The breakfast options were fabulous and we enjoyed having the option to eat it on the tower roof that morning.

Tip: I would recommend reading about the history of the castle before your visit. We did and knowing its history beforehand made the stay so much more meaningful.

This was one of the most incredible places I have ever stayed. Truly magical. I am so grateful that we found this castle. Our interactions with Ian and Sue were exceptional - they are so friendly and helpful!

Fascinating place to stay. Felt like we were stepping back in time when we entered our quarters. Ian and Sue made us feel very welcome, and gave us a great insight into the history of the area and their castle. A superb place to stay and feel history come alive.

Tip: Quick drive from Edinburgh yet feels a world away. We took up Ian’s suggestion and did the coastal drive to North Berwick. Very picturesque. Close to restaurants and cafes of Musselburgh.

All top notch! But there is a musty smell that interfered with us sleeping well. We had to leave the window open and keep the fan in the bathroom on to get fresh air in.

Sue and Ian were wonderful hosts and the property is amazing. Can't imagine a better place to stay during a visit to Edinburgh.

Tip: We ate at the Mercat in Mussulburgh, just a short drive from the Castle. Very good. Travel into Edinburgh is easy via the train from Wallyford.

The bed was super comfy. I've been in several hotels this week and this was the best sleep I've had. Ian and Sue left out great snacks and gave us a nice tour of the castle. Perfect getaway!

Tip: You can take the train to wallyford from Edinburgh. But you have to use the taxi to the castle.

Ian and Sue at Faside Castle and delightful. Our stay was nothing short of magical. They saw to our every need and gave us great tips on local activities and sights. The Castle itself is gorgeous and peaceful. The location is remote enough to be quiet and idyllic but not so far out that local travel is inconvenient.

Tip: If you have a car, drive the few miles (10-15) to Dirleton and North Berwick. Both villages boast amazing castles and can both be visited in the same day! The drive is lovely, right up the North Sea coast with plenty of photo opportunities. The Castles are awesome and not too busy! There are a few other small villages along the way. Eat at the Brig Inn and the Castle Inn for great local pub grub!

Lovely hosts who make you feel welcome and are also keen to advise about history of building.

Tip: Location is excellent - totally privacy and quiet but also very close drive to Edinburgh, East Lothian or Scottish Borders. Stairs not for the faint hearted!

Fa’side Castle is a really special experience. Lovely hosts and the bed and breakfast suite is a memorable stay! Grand but cosy. I can’t recommend Fa’side Castle highly enough. A special alternative to the run-of-the-mill hotels on offer and the views from the turret are spectacular.

We had a relaxing break in cosy, peaceful and unique surroundings. The host and hostess were thoughtful and unobtrusive. They provided a large selection for our continental breakfast, biscuits/muffins for snacking on and included a lot of gluten free options for my husband. They kept the wood for the fire topped up and we could use the fire in the lounge if we wished. The central heating was effective and meant it was not necessary but added to the ambiance.
