Stay in our guest suite within the castle tower
At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B&B holiday accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to a rooftop walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning?
The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide ‘Emperor’ bed and there is a TV in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite. A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy at their leisure.
Guests staying in the Tower also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle — the Great Hall — a magnificent old room with an original stone fireplace and log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Stone window seats are built into the thick castle walls, and up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie.
From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. Faside Estate is only ten miles from Edinburgh, with easy access to local golf courses, museums, towns and restaurants.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Faside Castle. It was wonderful to stay in the countryside away from the chaos of Edinburgh. Both of the hosts were friendly and knowledgeable about the castle and surrounding area, and the views were magnificent. My only note would be to mention in the listing how high the spiral staircase is (e.g. how many steps to get to the bedroom), and perhaps advise travelers with health conditions or heavy suitcases that it may not be suitable for them. (I have a heart condition, and my poor wife had to schlep our very heavy suitcases up and down the stairs by herself since I couldn’t help much.) But aside from that, our stay was lovely.
Tip: We’d ABSOLUTELY recommend taking a day trip to Berwick and visiting the Scottish Seabird Center. The center itself has an interesting exhibit and very knowledgeable staff. Additionally, you can take a boat tour to the nearby islands to see the birds up close. The town itself is also super cute, and definitely worth the drive.
Wonderful hosts, incredible castle! I loved the tour Sue gave us at the beginning of our stay, the castle was awe inspiring, and so nice to get the experience without all the crowds. We had a lovely walk and beautiful views (watching the neighboring field’s sheep was endlessly entertaining), there were some adorable castle cats which I met outside lounging on the wall, and I honestly don’t have one negative thing to say at all. Just sad I didn’t get to try the giant clawfoot tub! I definitely recommend trying to stay more than one night.
It was a lovely stay! Loved learning about the history of the tower and generally just chatting with Ian. The rooms and grounds were beautiful and I wish we could have stayed longer.
Off the beaten path, this was a wonderful adventure for us. Ian was a wonderful host, loved his stories and maintains a wonderful country ambience. Loved the bed and bathtub and all of the nice breakfast goodies. Would love to come back someday and bring our friends!
Tip: Beautiful drive along the golf coast! We should have driven past Gullaine as there were not very many choices for dinner on a Monday night but we loved the Old Clubhouse overlooking the golf course! Friendly people all around! We got fabulous photographs of the sunset!
Very clean spacious accommodation, roof access added bonus, hosts very accommodating even with dietary requirements, huge continental breakfast selection. Great to be shown around by Sue and learn some of the history of this amazing place, would highly recomend staying here
Tip: Dunbar is a nice town for a walk round not too far and the national museum of flight is well worth a visit

We had a fabulous stay in the Tower. It is absolutely stunning and such an unusual accommodation option. We loved the peace and quiet, the history of the castle and watching the Hogmanay fireworks from the top of the tower. The facilities available were good and the breakfast items were plentiful and varied. The owners were so friendly and full of local knowledge and history. We even got to see butterflies on New Years Day. It was just perfect.
Tip: The Mercat Grill was lovely, well worth a visit. The tower stairs are quite steep but it is a 14th century castle so not really surprising.
Amazing stay, worth every penny and wouldn’t change a thing
Tip: Book taxis the day before as they can be unreliable for this location

Sue and Ian were such delightful hosts. They provided a giant breakfast for us☺️ Sue and Ian were full of knowledge about the castle. The castle is so well restored. We had a giant bed and a giant bathtub. We felt like queens for the day! She gave us a lovely tour of the castle and showed us what was done when! They have lovely outdoor cats and dogs that came up to us for snuggles. The countryside is so quiet and quaint - we slept so well. The grounds are full of beautiful flowers! I’m so grateful Sue and Ian keep this gem open to the public - it is the perfect hidden castle for anyone who loves castles as much as I do! The history goes back a long time so it was amazing to learn about!
We had a wonderful stay in beautiful location. We were made to feel very welcome. Super comfy bed and magnificent views from the top of the tower
Warmly welcomed on our arrival. Ian and Sue Brash are wonderful hosts. Lots of information if needed but do not intrude on your stay. There was a small fridge which was beautifully stocked and plentiful tea coffee etc. It is a castle and so the stairs are circular and the rooms were decorated accordingly. So special. The views from the turrets were amazing. We felt so comfortable there. I would highly recommend this special place.
Tip: We visited the beautiful beach at Gullane. We went to Edinburgh which is about 15 minutes drive. We went to the Witchery restaurant beside Edinburgh castle. Although there is Princes Street in Edinburgh for those that like to shop there are also two shopping centres. There are lots of street tours too. There are also castles nearby. We chose to bring food for our evening meal but you could also order from Uber just eat if you want to make the most of your stay. We also ate at Ducks Inn in nearby Aberlady.

Fabulous place to stay. Truly special. Hosts friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Breakfast and snack choice in room was just right. Would love to return.
Tip: Short drive to Mussellburgh, Tranent and Edinburgh. Beautiful coastal walks. Plenty of takeaway places or restaurants nearby.
A unique and rewarding experience. A warm and friendly welcome and accommodation unlike anything else at the price. Most restored Scottish castles are very expensive to stay in. This is a very special place.
Tip: The spiral stairs are not for the elderly or anyone with mobility problems, but if you can handle them this place is a must, particularly for anyone interested in history.
This isn’t a room it’s exclusive use of a full 14th century pristinely kept castle… we arrived at the gates to be greeted by sue and Ian whom couldn’t have been more pleasant or accommodating. As we entered through the impressive entrance we started the ascent of the spiral tower staircase over a reinforced glass window covering the dungeon and up to the breathtaking grand hall with open fire, unbelievable original features throughout and a museum feel which was surreally impeccably clean… this honestly needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated. The living suite is located on the next floor and is reached by continuing up the tower which comprises of a giant extremely comfortable bed, double ended roll top bath and a kitchen/breakfast section which was fully stocked with everything you need, all utensils etc and a couple of mod cons in a fully original chamber that has a cave feel to it. In addition to this living accommodation and at the top of the tower there is roof access to a fortified turretet roof terrace which has unbelievable panoramic views. Couldn’t fault this stay in the slightest and we were both blown away by the character everywhere we looked in this building and can’t wait to return. Although the hosts were on hand should we have ever need anything it was not intrusive in the slightest due to the segregation of different living accommodations 😁
Exceeded expectations on all counts!
Honestly, I am delighted that all our other plans for my husband's 40th were cancelled due to COVID otherwise we would never have had this wonderful experience. Cannot recommend highly enough. Absolutely incredible in every way. Unique, highly comfortable, memorable, amazing experience. Not to mention great communication and small touches from hosts. Book it now, you will not regret it!
Tip: Take some fine wine, light the fire and snuggle up with a game of backgammon (provided) and just soak up the incredible atmosphere! If you're still in COVID lockdown restrictions when you visit then Pizza from Pizza Den on Just Eat was DELICIOUS!
We decided to stay here when I saw a deal on Booking.com for New Years Eve, and were not disappointed. Even though we are both locals to the Wallyford/East Lothian area, Sue gave us extensive information about the Castle and how it has been rebuilt. I never realised when booking that we had access to the grand hall, the bedroom, and the roof top terrace, so this was all an added bonus when we arrived. The grand hall has a lovely fire place and amazing ceiling art work. The roof top terrace was fab, we could see the NYE fireworks from Edinburgh Castle so clearly, as well as fireworks from Wallyford, Prestonpans and Fife. I would (and have already) definitely recommend Fa'Side Castle as a place to stay, to any locals or anyone travelling from far away, we really enjoyed our evening in the castle. Finally, just wanted to add that Sue was a very attentive and kind host and really made us feel comfortable.
Absolutely amazing, fabulous cant wait to return
